The article titled “Noise Control in Transformers with Jacketing Solution”, written by Pechom R&D Chief Suat Sezer Ertan, was published in the January 2024 issue of Transformer Magazine. The article discusses engineering approaches for controlling transformer noise and presents the solutions offered by Pechom in this field.
Thanks to the special jacketing system we have developed, it is possible to effectively control transformer noise. Jacketing is based on the application of a specific combination of materials, selected according to the requirements of each project, onto the transformer tank surface.
Traditional noise control methods for transformers and reactors, such as acoustic enclosures and noise barriers, have been widely used for many years. However, the jacketing solutions implemented by Pechom for many years with successful results stand out with their innovative approach and technical advantages compared to these conventional methods.
Advantages of the jacketing solution:
Up to 10–12 dB(A) noise reduction can be achieved
Does not require additional space around the transformer
Integrated with the transformer and requires no maintenance
Installation can be carried out at the transformer manufacturing factory
Installation takes less time compared to an enclosure or noise barrier
Does not require additional transport during transformer shipment
Cost is approximately 40% lower compared to alternative solutions
